Director Michael Wood has worked In the rights of way field for 17 years. He has successfully handled modification orders, diversion and extinguishment orders, private rights of way claims and open country mapping for landowners.
Michael handles around 6-10 public inquiries a year acting as advocate for our clients and their professional advisers. His successes at inquiry include cases which have been referred to us just days before the inquiry commences.
We cannot guarantee to defeat every claim for a right of way but we do promise to put forward all of the options for you and to make sure that these are set out clearly at inquiry. By doing this we have ensured that even where a path is recorded on the definitive map the width is not excessive and gates and stiles that should be recorded are correctly noted.
We also strive for successful outcomes when resolving many other issues for our clients from stock control cases, private access issues and uncontested diversions.
Our flag ship results include successfully diverting the public paths at Pitshill to increase security and privacy for the landowner and enabling the restoration of this Grade II* house in West Sussex.
Michael secured the extinguishment of a footpath in Gloucestershire and has successfully diverted a number of footpaths and bridleways in other parts of the country.
Michael has undertaken more than 65 public inquiries on modification orders with a high level of success for clients including defeating many claimed rights, securing the downgrading of public status and the reduction of claimed widths, as well as ensuring that gates and stiles are recorded.
